National Wildlife Federation: Higher Education in a Warming World. As Congress considers legislation to reduce the nation*s greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by mid-century, colleges and universities hold an important key. This new report, developed by NWF*s Campus program and principally authored by David Eagan with NWF's Julian Keniry and Justin Schott and with support from our Praween Dayananda, Kristy Jones and Lisa Madry finds that campuses nationwide have launched climate-driven projects that are taking a significant bite out of carbon emissions while saving money. Higher Education in a Warming World: The Business Case for Climate Leadership on Campus demonstrates how some 100 schools are leading in innovative responses to the threats of global warming.

“Tackling Climate Change in the U.S.: Potential Carbon Emissions Reductions from Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy by 2030”. The report is the summary of nine special technical presentations at the SOLAR 2006 Conference. The 180 page report clearly demonstrates the potential of energy efficiency and renewable energy technologies to reduce our projected carbon emissions to 60 to 80 percent below projections by 2030. The report was released in January of this year. The nine research papers included in the report cover three special energy efficiency presentations: overall energy efficiency, buildings, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and six renewable energy technologies: concentrating solar power, photovoltaics, wind power, biomass, biofuels and geothermal energy. This work has been presented at AAAS and other venues to broad acceptance and great interest. We suggest that any serious discussion of the solutions to climate change needs to include the emissions reductions available from energy efficiency and renewables as credibly demonstrated in this body of work.
